Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni stated that Lionel Messi’s availability for the Copa América quarterfinal against Ecuador is unclear. The final decision on his participation will be made after the evening training session.
Messi did not play in Argentina’s last group stage match due to a right leg injury, but returned to training this week. Scaloni plans to have an individual conversation with Messi before the match to assess his physical status.
Scaloni mentioned that the team’s lineup decisions are not solely influenced by Messi’s presence. The team will adapt its strategy based on the situation, whether Messi plays or not.
Both teams have analyzed their previous encounters when preparing for the upcoming quarterfinal match. Ecuador’s manager, Félix Sánchez, acknowledged Messi’s influence but also highlighted that Argentina’s game model remains consistent with or without him.
The quarterfinal between Argentina and Ecuador will take place at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. The winning team will advance to the semifinal in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on July 9th.
